With all of the sales going on during the holidays, it’s a great time to stock up on stitching supplies, useful embroidery tools and other one-of-a-kind goodies. Whether you are browsing for yourself or someone else, these great finds would be perfect for filling a stocking or bundled together in a thoughtful, embroidery-inspired gift basket!
Unique Thread Organization
I’m all about staying organized when I’m working on an embroidery project, which is why I love these unique thread storage options that Modern Hoopla has created! Depending on how you wrap your thread, choose from an option that holds embroidery bobbins, or clothes pins. Some of them even come with a magnet to mind your needles. How clever is that?!
Tidy Skeins
If you prefer to lay out all of your thread colors when stitching rather than having them wrapped on bobbins or clothespins, this wooden thread sorter is another great option. It has room for 32 skeins and also includes a magnet for keeping your needle secure.
Embroidered Bracelet Craft Projects
I love picking up little crafty projects for my nieces to work on, and this wide leather cuff is a fun project for an older child to embellish. Plus, it could give them the chance to learn cross stitch or embroidery! Don’t forget to select the pearl cotton threads to go with them.
Stitching On the Go
Take your stitching projects on the road with this Yazzii Hand Quilters Project Bag which has a ton of space for all of your fabric, thread and other supplies. Whether you quilt, sew, embroider, hand appliqué or craft, this bag has more than enough room for your project and everything that goes with it. Need something bigger that includes room for large hoops, books and even a laptop? Check out this embroidery project bag that I picked up for my stitching travels.
One-of-a-Kind Hand Sewing Projects
If you enjoy slow stitching, then I highly recommend the Alabama Stitch Book: Projects and Stories Celebrating Hand-Sewing, Quilting, and Embroidery for Contemporary Sustainable Style. I picked up this book a few months ago and have been fascinated by the hand sewn and embroidered projects that allow me to upcycle old clothes and give them new life. I’m slowly working my way through this book and can’t wait to tackle some of the more involved sewing projects.
Keep Your Needles Sharp!
After all of that hand stitching and sewing, you’ll need a tool like this cute Macaron Needle Sharpener by Clover. It works way better than that little strawberry sharpener that accompanies your tomato pin cushion and includes a magnet to hold your needles when you finish sharpening them.
Protect Your Needles (and Fingers!)
Keep the points of your needles safe with these needle and pin caps. They are great for covering the tip of your needle when you leave it in your embroidery fabric for the night. Especially helpful during travel!
For the Person Starting Embroidery
Have a friend or family member that’s just getting into cross stitch or embroidery? Treat them to this Stitching Starter Bundle by DMC. This bundle makes a great gift and includes a StitchBow™ Mini Needlework Travel Bag, a pack of 10 StitchBow™ Floss Holders, a pack of StitchBow™ Mini Binder Inserts, a magnetic needle case, a pair of DMC embroidery scissors, a DMC embroidery stitch guide, DMC 6-strand embroidery floss, and a pack of size 22 DMC tapestry needles.
Stock Up on Thread
Also, if you’re needing embroidery thread, DMC has great sales on their thread assortments as I’m writing this article. It’s the perfect time to pick up a bunch of popular colors, like this bundle of top 100 pearl cotton threads (great for felt appliqué embellishment), or this bundle of DMC Color Variations floss, which is always a favorite of mine to use on botanicals.
Thread Saver
Do you hate to throw away those bits of leftover thread after you’ve finished stitching? Well now you can show them off in this floss saver box by Modern Hoopla. It comes in different sizes and is a fun way to see all those beautiful colors mixed together!
Protection for Your Embroidery Scissors
Another practical product by Clover, these point protectors are useful for keeping your hands safe from the sharp tips of embroidery scissors. Or try these pretty embroidery scissors sheaths instead!
