I love keeping my eye out for fun stitching supplies, practical embroidery tools, and patterns that I am loving so that I can share them with you! With Mother’s Day just around the corner, this embroidery gift guide has ideas that would be perfect for the stitcher in your life. You can put together a little gift basket with a collection of these goodies, or maybe even pick out a couple for yourself!
Modern Frames, Hoop Props and Feet
Looking for a different way to display your finished embroidery hoops? Check out the assortment of frames from Modern Hoopla! Kate offers them in a variety of stains and colors. Plus don’t miss her hoop props and feet which hold your embroidery hoops upright on a shelf, mantle, or tabletop.
Gorgeous Wool for Appliqué Projects
I’ve been getting more and more into felt appliqué and working with wool and I just love when I can find some wonderfully textured hand-dyed stuff! Check out the wool scrap packs from Primitive Gatherings for smaller projects, or if you need more yardage, explore Midway Wool’s fabric! (So much fabric, so little time!)
Lap Embroidery Hoop
I’ve shared before about how much I love my lap embroidery hoop. It really saves my neck and keeps my hands free when I’m stitching so that I don’t have to hold my hoop at awkward angles and end up with sore wrists. Check out this one from DMC.
Clover Needle Threader
You can never have too many practical tools, like a good needle threader! I love this one by Clover because of how it fits so nicely into the eyes of certain needles, like my Tulip milliners needles.
Vintage Embroidery Designs
I’ve been an admirer of these gorgeous embroidery kits by Linladan for a while now, and love to treat myself to one now and again. Featuring linen embroidery thread and designs rescued from the archive of the Swedish embroidery company Nordiska/Niab, I recommend checking their shop often to see what rotating kits they are printing, or to get a bundle of their beautiful threads.
Must-Try Cotton Threads
Speaking of gorgeous threads, I love the beautiful variations of Sulky Cotton Blendables Petites Thread. Check out all of the different color variations this line offers and pick some up for a special embroidery project, or to embellish some felt appliqué. ONE strand of this 12 Wt. cotton thread equals TWO strands of the typical six-strand embroidery floss. Also, the 50 yard spool equal 2 skeins of DMC floss, so you get more for your money.
A Favorite Mother’s Day Pattern
I would be remiss not to mention this beautiful and deeply meaningful hand-lettered embroidery pattern that’s available in my shop. Based on a verse from Proverbs 31, it reads: “Her mouth speaks wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” It’s long been a favorite for people to stitch up as gifts to the special women in their lives. Download it here and stitch it up as a handmade Mother’s Day gift.
The Perfect Table for Handwork
This small adjustable lap table provides a rest for hands making it ideal for appliqué and handwork. I love the other thoughtful features it includes, such as spindles for holding thread, a strong magnet for your needles and a pocket on the cover for a small pair of needlework scissors. Plus, the Lapp App table comes with a sewing pattern to make a replacement cover.
For the Collectors
If you like having a wide assortment of threads at your fingertips, be sure to pick up this 35 color pack of DMC’s Mouliné Étoile featuring a bit of a twinkle effect. For something even more special, grab the gorgeous Vintage Wooden Chest that includes 500 skeins of embroidery floss.
Spool and Hoop Huggers
These practical little tools are great whether you need to keep thread spools from unraveling, or you need to secure some of the extra fabric that’s hanging over the edge of your embroidery hoop. (Anyone but me accidentally stitch through their extra fabric?) Three cheers for staying neat, tidy, and organized!
Unique Fibers for Your Stitching
If you are ready to branch out and explore some new types of thread in your embroidery work, I recommend checking out the hand-dyed fibers from The Thread Gatherer. They offer a beautiful selection of silk threads, ribbons, chenille, sea grass, linen and more.
